Fair Isle Weekend by Mary Jane Mucklestone
This hardcover book contains 8 beautiful full-color patterns ranging from small projects like cuffs to sweaters. (2 sweaters, 1 vest, 2 hats, 1 collar, 1 pair of fingerless gloves, 1 pair of cuffs)
Fair Isle Weekend takes you on an exciting journey to Fair Isle , a windswept island in Shetland, famous for its traditional colour-block knitting. During her many trips to Fair Isle, Mary Jane was fascinated and inspired by the island’s rich textile traditions, learning to knit Fair Isle by looking at old fabrics and sharing stories and knowledge over a cup of tea. For this book, she has created a beautiful collection of patterns to take with you on a weekend in Shetland, when a carry-on bag is all you need.
“So I invite you to join us, this little group of friends on the road, sharing a little glimpse of the island from my outsider’s perspective. I offer you a small collection in my Fair Isle knitting style, which I hope honors tradition, even if my work is not particularly traditional.”
Mary Jane Mucklestone is a knitter, teacher, and author specializing in Fair Isle , also called stranded knitting.
